The South West Big-Move Guide
Out here the move is bigger than the floor plan suggests once you count the garage and the shed. This is the truck-size reference and the prep checklist we use for big South West moves — print it or save it as a PDF for the fridge.
South West Big-Move Guide Truck-size reference
Compare moves by cubic metres, not tonnes. A four-bedroom South West home with a double garage and a full shed is squarely the large band.
| Truck | Capacity | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Small truck | 2–4t · 15–20 m³ | A unit or a small 1–2 bedroom home |
| Mid pantech | 6–8t · 27–35 m³ | A 2–3 bedroom home, or a small home with a full garage |
| Large pantech | 8–10t · 35–45 m³ | A 4-bedroom home with a double garage and a full shed |
Big-move checklist
01Three weeks out
- Confirm your move date — and if it is a builder handover, treat it as provisional
- Walk the WHOLE home: bedrooms, the garage AND the shed. The garage and shed are what people underestimate
- Get an indicative truck size from Truck Fit, then send us your details to confirm
- Declutter the garage and shed early — a tip run now saves truck space later
- Book the move; ask us to hold a backup date if your handover could slip
02The week before
- Start packing the rooms you use least; label boxes by room
- Arrange power, gas, water and internet at the new place from your move date
- Redirect mail and update your address with the bank, work and Service NSW
- For a high-rise unit (Liverpool centre): book the service lift and the loading bay
- For a new estate: save the address as a map pin — new streets lag on GPS
03The big-move specifics (why size matters here)
- A heavy truck can only legally park an hour in the street — so the right size + crew = one trip
- Plan where the truck sits at both ends: driveway, street, or a tight cul-de-sac
- Clear the carry path: gates unlocked, bins moved, branches trimmed
- Flag anything heavy or awkward (piano, pool table, big fridge, trampoline)
- For a new build: plan floor protection and keep gear off bare turf and soft new kerbs
04Moving day
- Pack the essentials box last, unload it first: kettle, chargers, documents, bedding
- Disconnect and defrost the fridge the night before
- Walk the crew through the priority rooms at the new place
- Reassemble beds and big furniture first so night one is easy
- Do a final empty-and-clean sweep of the old place; hand back keys
